This blog is being posted on my Not Just Yours...Mid Century Collectibles blog making it a dramatic switch in conversation from Mid Century is the first of what I term as the beginning of my new blog called "TheBrookinsReview" to broaden interest on subjects related to gardening and health.

What we eat and the health issues that are derived by the foods we consume. But the switch is of importance and I proceed on this premise.

My research on the subject of RBGH and GMO in relation to this article stem from Dr. Mercola and his article

The fact of our US government departments being manipulated by corporations at the cost of the consumer without any concern of the health ramifications endured by the consumers is appalling.

It is my understanding that Monsanto is one of the largest if not thee largest producer of GMO seed and now come to find out that they provide RBGH for cows and that they were put in charge of conducting the study on the effects of this for lack of better words "growth hormone" that is administered to cows in order to produce more milk.

Even with the farmers screaming that the cows will be sick you will produce Mastitis in the cows.
Yet our government continues to allow the use of this RBGH and GMO.
To quote Dr Mercola "Sure One needs to b pragmatic. Monsanto has effectively infiltrated almost every significant government position that has any regulatory authority in this area."

The bottom line in this report is that there needs to be a reversal in the education process. We are here at the adult level but this needs to go back to the children . In that we educate children how to grow food ,making their own food, buying local. Basic gardening skills that are taught in grade school but not put into practice at home.

Some of the neat things that you can do on the Internet and computer. While surfing through followers on my 1littlebirdy Twitter account. I found a very unique tool that allows you to make "magazine" covers. These appear as if to be actual magazine covers with real articles and even price and bar code. It impressed me the speed in which you can make one and then I thought about the potential use this tool has.

As you can see I had some fun designing these covers with real items from my antique shop and inventory. This is a very easy to use tool that will provide options for advertising if I used my imagination just a little.

"ObamaCare", cares about what? Wow I just viewed this video & it speaks volumes. I'm so thankful that I have not sent my AARP application in - more than likely it ended up in the correct trash pile (OR did I mean file,ha,ha)? What about that letter "Why Don't We See This"
From what I see we have people like those who remained in the AARP meeting, those in 9-12 - you and I who have answered the rude wake up call and have begun to hammer back in the face of those (politicians) who would miss lead us.

It kind of caught me off guard just a little that such a reputable organization as AARP would have such childish representatives. Yet, that is corporate America in the big city. Seems that the reason for the Dallas, TX meeting wasn't really for AARP, but for the after math the spark that says "let's pull together" and "in love" take back our government.
Let them know that we want to have our own personal lives and don't need or want big government in it!

The issue with health care reform is not the lowering of the health care insurance bill that all of us pay! No it is the lowering of the cost of health care that needs to be addressed.
Instead of bringing the cost (not a bad idea - just use a different method) of every ones coverage down, instead of requiring everyone to purchase health care coverage (Socialism-Marxism). Instead the thing that needs to be addressed is the COST of THE CARE!
You have the pharmaceutical conglomerates out there who only think about how much money can we get for this worthless pill? Not a real problem because we have got the "health care" providers whom we call doctors by the wallet. We just pay the doctors every time you and I run to CVS (drug stores) to fill the worthless prescription.

American capitalism gone with a whimper

It must be said, that like the breaking of a great dam, the American descent into Marxism is happening with breath taking speed, against the back drop of a passive, hapless sheeple, excuse me dear reader, I meant people.

True, the situation has been well prepared on and off for the past century, especially the past twenty years. The initial testing grounds was conducted upon our Holy Russia and a bloody test it was. But we Russians would not just roll over and give up our freedoms and our souls, no matter how much money Wall Street poured into the fists of the Marxists.

Those lessons were taken and used to properly prepare the American populace for the surrender of their freedoms and souls, to the whims of their elites and betters.

First, the population was dumbed down through a politicized and substandard education system based on pop culture, rather then the classics. Americans know more about their favorite TV dramas then the drama in DC that directly affects their lives. They care more for their "right" to choke down a McDonalds burger or a BurgerKing burger than for their constitutional rights. Then they turn around and lecture us about our rights and about our "democracy". Pride blind the foolish.

Then their faith in God was destroyed, until their churches, all tens of thousands of different "branches and denominations" were for the most part little more then Sunday circuses and their televangelists and top protestant mega preachers were more then happy to sell out their souls and flocks to be on the "winning" side of one pseudo Marxist politician or another. Their flocks may complain, but when explained that they would be on the "winning" side, their flocks were ever so quick to reject Christ in hopes for earthly power. Even our Holy Orthodox churches are scandalously liberalized in America.

The final collapse has come with the election of Barack Obama. His speed in the past three months has been truly impressive. His spending and money printing has been a record setting, not just in America's short history but in the world. If this keeps up for more then another year, and there is no sign that it will not, America at best will resemble the Wiemar Republic and at worst Zimbabwe.

These past two weeks have been the most breath taking of all. First came the announcement of a planned redesign of the American Byzantine tax system, by the very thieves who used it to bankroll their thefts, loses and swindles of hundreds of billions of dollars. These make our Russian oligarchs look little more then ordinary street thugs, in comparison.. Yes, the Americans have beat our own thieves in the shear volumes. Should we congratulate them?

These men, of course, are not an elected panel but made up of appointees picked from the very financial oligarchs and their henchmen who are now gorging themselves on trillions of American dollars, in one bailout after another. They are also usurping the rights, duties and powers of the American congress (parliament). Again, congress has put up little more then a whimper to their masters.

Then came Barack Obama's command that GM's (General Motor) president step down from leadership of his company. That is correct, dear reader, in the land of "pure" free markets, the American president now has the power, the self given power, to fire CEOs and we can assume other employees of private companies, at will. Come hither, go dither, the centurion commands his minions.

So it should be no surprise, that the American president has followed this up with a "bold" move of declaring that he and another group of unelected, chosen stooges will now redesign the entire automotive industry and will even be the guarantee of automobile policies. I am sure that if given the chance, they would happily try and redesign it for the whole of the world, too. Prime Minister Putin, less then two months ago, warned Obama and UK's Blair, not to follow the path to Marxism, it only leads to disaster. Apparently, even though we suffered 70 years of this Western sponsored horror show, we know nothing, as foolish, drunken Russians, so let our "wise" Anglo-Saxon fools find out the folly of their own pride.

Again, the American public has taken this with barely a whimper...but a "freeman" whimper.

So, should it be any surprise to discover that the Democratically controlled Congress of America is working on passing a new regulation that would give the American Treasury department the power to set "fair" maximum salaries, evaluate performance and control how private companies give out pay raises and bonuses? Senator Barney Franks, a social pervert basking in his homosexuality (of course, amongst the modern, enlightened American societal norm, as well as that of the general West, homosexuality is not only not a looked down upon life choice, but is often praised as a virtue) and his Marxist enlightenment, has led this effort. He stresses that this only affects companies that receive government monies, but it is retroactive and taken to a logical extreme, this would include any company or industry that has ever received a tax break or incentive.

The Russian owners of American companies and industries should look thoughtfully at this and the option of closing their facilities down and fleeing the land of the Red as fast as possible. In other words, divest while there is still value left.
The proud American will go down into his slavery with out a fight, beating his chest and proclaiming to the world, how free he really is. The world will only snicker.

Where are The MEN? To paraphrase John Adams..."Preach harder on the sin that is most prevalent."

Although there is no "new" sin...coming down on the sin that is destroying a people should be the goal of the day. What is that sin homosexuality, pornography,abortion.($350 million tax dollars are killing babies)..these are prevalent sins. These are the ones we need to hear the preacher and priest come down on.

But a second thought is in order what is the definition of the "prevalent sin".
Perhaps we need clergy to come down on the "SIN of lack"... lack of leadership "lack of responsibility" "lack of accountability"....where are the men in this country.

Those who up hold values, who love their wives, their children, their jobs, their countrymen, and the brotherhood.

President Obama in his run for office and in office empower the women. Don't get me wrong women are strong and play important parts in everyones lives. Women like men have their important parts to play in life.

We have a few hero's in position in the battle and need our supporting prayers. To fight with strength against the leadership of the day ... so called men (whimps) who invite laws to silence those who are the predecessors of truth of the past.

The Swine Flu and President Obama's plan

Here is something that is good to hear from President Obama. The president is pushing national preparedness for the upcoming flue season. The information provided is very detailed and although I have not read every link within the site this is well worth going over.

According to the email sent to me by John O. Brennan, The White House it is the responsibility of each one of us to take action and prepare. This is why I am also sharing the information with others. Came across a blog titled The King's Blog with a blog on Poking Fun at the Presidency. Never thought "poking fun" was proper. The position of Presidency is to be respected. We may not like who is there this doesn't give us a right to belittle the office of the president.

Perhaps when we get back to showing respect to authority then those in authority might listen to our opinions.

My thoughts instead of "Poking Fun" Wouldn't it be better to Pray for those in leadership?

For good laughter "Poke Fun" at our selves instead.

The Roosevelt Hotel New Orleans

In New Orleans La. stands a proud building who has weathered many storms. Built by German immigrant Louis Grunewald. Named after him then called The Grunewald. Some people consider this hotel host to the very first night club in the United States. This night club was called 'The Cave".
The Grunewald opened it's doors for business in 1893. The hotel over the years went through many changes and expansions. When in 1923 a group of New Orleans investors purchased the hotel and renamed her "The Roosevelt Hotel" in honor of the late president Theodore Roosevelt. Many people refer to this historic hotel as "The Roosevelt Hotel" even after it was aquired in 1965 by The Fairmont Hotel and Resort, and renamed "The Fairmont". Even today she is know as "The Roosevelt Hotel" .

It was in 1859 when John Schiller opened Sazerac Coffee House in New Orleans. He served a cocktail called Sazerac. His coffee house and the cocktail more than likely derived their name from Sazerac-de-Forge et filz popular Cognac .
This cocktail is prepared as followes:
calls for 1 cube of sugar
1 1/2 ounces of Sazerac Rye Whiskey
1/4 ounce of Herbsaint
3 dashes of Peychaud's Bitters
and a lemon peel.
One old-fashioned-Western-style glass is packed with ice. In a second old fashioned, Western-style glass, a sugar cube and 3 dashes of Peychaud's Bitters are muddled. The Rye Whiskey is then added to the sugar/Bitters mixture. The ice is emptied from the first old-fashioned-Western-style glass and the Herbsaint is poured into the glass and swirled to coat the sides of the glass. Any excess Herbsaint is discarded. The Rye-Sugar-Bitters mixture is then poured into the Herbsaint coated glass and the glass is garnished with a lemon peel.

The original Sazerac Cocktail was a cognac based drink. In the 1870s, cognac was replaced with Rye Whiskey and absinthe was added.
(Absinthe has been legal in the United States since 2007.)

Refrigeration as we know it today is fairly new,mid 19th century to 1930 ice boxes were used. Ice was cut from frozen lakes and stored in "ice houses" then delivered by the ice wagon similar to the milk man. Okay,you say but this was in the south after all New Orleans "frozen lakes"?
New England took advantage of their frozen lakes and ice was shipped in straw packed ships to southern US. Hence the availability of ice.
Sugar cubes? Jakub Krystof Rad, inventor of the first sugar cube in 1841.In the US in 1730 a sugar refinery was opened in New York City by Nicholas Bayard. Raw sugar was imported to the colonies from overseas. During the Civil War the sugar industry of the Gulf States were destroyed (1861).
The cocktail reciepe may or may not be from 1859?

Tip: If you want t be labeled as "one of those tourist" Order your Sazerac on the Rocks. Be it known that only tourist would do such a thing.

Box it right ship it mean. You can send your items packaged to survive the trip. Arriving as your customers expected them to arrive, mean and lean ready to go. Over the many years in the logistics business and having to handle and deal with customers. There is one thing that you want to avoid , "UN-happy customers". Give them the service that you would like to have given to you.
When an item is ready for shipping it has been packed to survive the trip from your store to your customers door. Let me say right here and now there isn't a known cure for the occasional damaged item. Make sure your customers have the correct amount of carrier insurance or declared value paid for on those items that are fragile.

Know what you send could be damaged.So, I recommend doing the following:

1. wrap the item in bubble wrap or foam
2. line the box with 1 1/2 to 2 inches of cushioning
3. the item must be in the center of this cushioning

Next seal this box using quality packing tape. Do not scrimp on tape since problems with tape coming off during transit results from inferior tapes.(never use 'masking tape' 'scotch tape' or 'duck tape')
Once this box has been packed you are now ready to pack the "box"? Yes, pack the box! Do the same thing to this box packing it into a larger box follow these steps:

1. place cushioning on the bottom about 2 inches deep
2. place the inner box on this cushioning
3. place cushioning around the four sides of the inner box
4. place your customers "thank-you " letter on top of the inner box
5. place 2 inches of cushioning on top of the inner box
6. seal the box with quality packing tape

The proper way to seal a box. Tape where the two flaps meet in the middle go with the seam. Now tape the seams on the ends of the box. Your tape should look like an "H" when correctly applied. There is no need to tape around the sides where no opening is. This only waste the tape since it will not keep the box closed. Most of the time you see boxes taped this way to "help hold the contents in". When in reality the box itself was not fit for shipping.
Examples of poor boxes:

1. shoe box that will be used as the outer box
2. Styrofoam that is very thin
3. used boxes (see exception) that have seen the world over and over
4. damaged boxes,this means torn on the sides or any where that objects poke out of the box
5. boxes with weak sides and bottoms. These are no better than a thin paper plate with a mountain of food on it.

TIP 1 : It is completely okay to use boxes that have been "used" already. I have even used boxes from recycle bins. Yes, dumpster diving. Well you don't need to climb into the "trash dumpster" that is not sanitary. Taking boxes from a "recycle bin" where they are folded flat and not covered with smelly food items can be a resource if you get good boxes. You will be helping the environment at the same time reducing your packaging materials cost. Make sure 'all' old shipping labels are removed to prevent your box from going to the wrong address? (if there are too many addresses on the box, then it is time to find a new box)

TIP 2 : If you cannot bring yourself to using recycled boxes above. You might want to contact local stores during the time of restocking. This typically on Tuesdays since most stores stock their shelves with merchandise then? The clerk or management are more than happy to assist you. Here you will find another resource for boxes.

TIP 3: Most carriers do not allow the use of wrapping paper "brown" that is covering the outside of a box. The reason is ,during mechanical handling and some personal handling this paper could be torn from the box. Leaving the box without the "to" and "from" address.

TIP 4 Do not use twine or jute or any other strapping around and around the box. Even banding straps could cause the box to be torn open if caught in the carriers conveyor system? Don't forget to apply a fragile sticker or use a black marker to write 'fragile'.

Your customer will not be happy with a poorly box item?

Think before you pack and you can "Box it right ship it mean".

Hope that you found this guide "boxed", just right for you.

It is a very good policy to write your to and from addresses on the inside box. If for whatever reason the outer box is missing during transit ,at least the carrier will be able to contact one or the other parties and complete the delivery.

Another point that needs to be sure, when selecting a box for the outer box be sure it is not a 'store shelf box.' Store shelf boxes are the ones you see on the shelf in a store. These are the boxes that for example ; your laptop computer came in. These boxes will do well as a inner box . You want a strong ridged box one that is not weak one that will not sink under the pressure of another box.

Not every employee of every carrier is loyal to their customer or employer. You will have to remember your box WILL get tossed it Will get kicked, dropped or sat on. "Pack your item as if you sent it to yourself."

A new invention to catch FISH!

Fishing simple one says, take a line with a hook attached to a pole. Drop the line in the water. wham instant fish? Right we all have been down that river before. But wait. you have tried every lure in the box. Must be the weather let me just tie to this tree and wait it out for awhile.

So there you are feet up hat dipped down over your eyes. Off you go into the comforts of dream land where the fish are not only biting on every cast, but each one of them are wall hangers. The kind you write home about. Better than that. This make head lines since you just won the biggest Bass master Classic since Ray Scott formed BASS.

Then it happens that big splash that woke you from your dream wasn't your foot falling in the water. It was the splash from a large fish. Out of shear joy you reach for the net. But wait...the fish is going the wrong way. Not towards your boat but...but....but...wait? It is heading towards the other boat that pulled up while you slept.... What gives. Why couldn't I catch that fish that was under my boat?

While I would like to continue this article on fishing. It never was intended to be about fishing. It was about catching.... Catching your market of customers. It works because I myself fail Hook line and sinker for the technique that I am about to share with you.

There I was reading my social media blog. Minding my own business you know how it goes. Then some one comes along and drops a one liner that seemed to be a new way of getting things done. Yet it wasn't clear as how to use the technique.
So... like any respectful fish in the water a took a jump for the frog. Boy was that hook sharp.

Fisher Woman: "Glad you have sense of humor. Thought HIS way of catching @guykawasaki was brilliant. Good example... and fun, too!"

Big Fish:"Believe me that is on the top rack of my tackle box already."

The Nature of Rare Collectibles.

As their name suggests, all rare collectibles are scarce, hard to find items. They can be antiques that are desirable because of their age, type of craftsmanship or some other unique feature that represents the past. Some rare collectibles are so old that they are considered to be antiquities - artifacts of an ancient civilization such as ancient Greek or ancient Chinese society. Alternatively, rare collectibles can be of very recent origin, sometimes being only a few years old.

The common denominator of all rare collectibles, no matter what their type or age, is rarity. Frequently, because of their scarcity and their appeal, rare collectibles are also valuable. But whether they are valuable or inexpensive, rare collectibles are always important pieces in a collection.

The definition of "rare" or "rarity" changes with the type of object, and accordingly, the definition of "rare collectibles" is somewhat imprecise - there is no strict line of demarcation between what is "rare" and what is "not rare." "Paper ephemera" consists of written or printed material that has survived to the present despite the fact that the pieces were originally produced as disposable items, intended to be quickly discarded or destroyed. * The use of red makes people think negatively and associate with loosing. In most cases such as loosing money. That is where the expression "I'm in the red" or "I'm in debt" or "I.O.U." comes from.
* Accountants while doing the "books" want to reach the famous "bottom line" "in the black".
* This is why the Friday after Thanksgiving is know as "Black Friday" Retailers historically make the most sells on that day bringing them "out of the red" and making a profit.

* Multi color is also used when selling children's things like kids books or toys. Geared toward an immature audience. Often hard to follow this method. Just as blue on white over used is hard on the eyes. For example it is used most often on the web as a link or title. Good rule to follow remember manual type writers only had red and black ink.

The role of the "woman" in our society or interacting within an ethnically diverse society is the problem. Just as "submissiveness"is taken out of context. Let me explain your analogy of the role played in films is not out of order. When considering the method by which women are "chosen"and in this text via Hollywood and the film industry. What would you expect in a industry that prides itself with fame and the expense of the viewers. For myself the election to use my free time more wisely and to chose not to infiltrate my mind and thereby my life with cheap entertainment. The industry is geared towards the perversion of the roles not only of women but men and children. The context takes away the values of what a family is because sex sells. There is no concern for the impact on society but rather the numbers at the box office.
One needs to look at the real roles of men women and children from the view of what they were intended to be by our creator.
Husbands love your wives even as Christ loved the church. This is a love for ones wife which would indicate man married to woman. A concept that today's society wants to throw out the window as well.
Then wives are to be submissive to their husbands. The submissiveness is towards her husband and not towards another outside of her relationship with her husband. Wow,what an idea whose time has come "loyalty" and commitment towards each other.
The role of the child is "honor" your father and your mother that it my be well with thee and you shall live long.
The movie industry has taken all of these roles and flipped them over and changed them to be opposite of the standard. Where children boss parents around and wives run round and men chase men.
That is where our society is and is heading deeper into this trend as time moves on.
Your supposed industrialized "Rosie the Riveter" also would be one who is from a foreign country as industry itself is moved from the American way of life. It is not an industrialized country any more. We are service oriented instead. Not many of today's workers have even got "dirty finger nails". Never broke sweat doing a job more than sitting answering a phone in an office.
One would not need to see the obvious from the view of being chauvinistic? But obvious if one is viewing real life by the examples Hollywood gives us. Then one has taken a step down the wrong road and will view real life as sex money greed and who care what is right.

Thanks for more supportive feedback. Please understand that I never said that the success of Bruce Hershenson was not notable nor unworthy of praise? What I was asking was for tips for the little guy from the big guy. Bruce Hershenson is a go getter and I commend that. I am ever greatful to see community support. The newsletters from Auctionbyte.com have been helpful for the small guy like me. In gaining the inside scoop and connecting with community supporting folks like Henrietta,Patricia,Allen K. and I'm sure others who will offer tips and advice. It will also be great to hear any support from Auctionbytes.com on this subject.

There are so many stories about the success of the big guys? Sure some did just jump on the band wagon after inheriting from a great uncle or the likes there of. Yes, some have started out with nothing and made a success of themselves. That was last year or the year before. We face a new challenged time in our lives. One that provides us with the opportunity to empower new ideas that work for the betterment of ones business. One that will bring the little guy to a brighter tomorrow providing he or she makes prudent and timely decisions. What I hope to find is the trail that no one has gone down before. The one that leads to that peaceful waterfall in a tropical setting. But then I wake up to the realities and the world we are living in.Aware of the surroundings but not an proponent of doom. In this declining market the concerns of money brings every one together. Use to be a time when talking about the weather was the topic of conversation. Or,who made the play offs.
When dealing with every day business one goal is to improve the customer conversion rate. Some of the simple techniques are easiest to apply.

Wealth is a gain of what you deem valuable. Wealth is not always the amount of money growing interest in a bank account 401k or CD? While these things are great for purchasing power. Establishing relationships also brings "wealth" perhaps with more satisfying results. Because having friends to help bring you through any set back gives peace of mind.

GOD created mankind to work together to build a community of kindness towards one another. That is something that is being accomplished in the blogging world. This has been applied over and over with the brick and mortar industry. Where in the business that I find myself selling antiques. Other dealers who have established reputable business relationships. Have been those who did not think that sharing information would jeopardize their own business but in fact in grew their business.
A great example is a dealer who sales Mid Century furniture. Starting in the business over 6 years ago. He has grown strong in sells not of the typical antiques that one finds in an Antique Mall. He shared with me the way he has survived the economic down swing. By developing his niche market of Mid Century furniture of Danish and retro design. Floor lay out of his booth at the antique mall that one learns over time. Open generously sharing without ever thinking he was undermining his own sells. Yet, all the while bringing a new dealer to better understand the market.

Now while shopping for the smaller and more manageable inventory to promote on-line. I often find more than my budget will allow. Yet the furniture would be valuable to my dealer friend. That is when I would tell him about something I saw or where he could obtain a quality Charles Eames chair or sofa.
While the ability for me to make the larger purchase was not an option, it was for him. The result was growth for both.

I remember now?
The "common cents" used to be worth a penny and added up to a buck if you saved it. Bought a honey bun ,soda, bubble gum,and you saved the rest for later.

I guess if enough read this "common sense" blog, some one
might get the idea. Would be great to see one for the
common sense of using God's Word as a road map for life issues? edited to fit blog format.

An Obituary printed in the London Times........ Interesting and sadly rather true.

'Today we mourn the passing of a beloved old friend,Common Sense,
who has been with us for many years.
No one knows for sure how old he was,since his birth records were long ago lost in bureaucratic red tape.

He will be remembered as having cultivated such valuable lessons as:
Knowing when to come in out of the rain; why the early bird gets the worm;
Life isn't always fair; and maybe it was my fault.

Common Sense lived by simple, sound financial policies
(don't spend more than you can earn) and reliable strategies
(adults, not children,are in charge).

His health began to deteriorate rapidly when well-intentioned but overbearing regulations were set in place.

Reports of a 6-year-old boy charged with sexual harassment for kissing a classmate;
teens suspended from school for using mouth wash after lunch; and a teacher fired for reprimanding an unruly student, only worsened his condition.

Common Sense lost ground when parents attacked teachers for doing the job that they themselves had failed to do in disciplining their unruly children.

It declined even further when schools were required to get parental consent
to administer sun lotion or an Aspirin to a student; but could not inform parents when a student became pregnant and wanted to have an abortion.

Common Sense lost the will to live as the churches became businesses; and criminals received better treatment than their victims.

Common Sense took a beating when you couldn't defend yourself from a burglar in your own home and the burglar could sue you for assault.

Common Sense finally gave up the will to live, after a woman failed to realize that a steaming cup of coffee was hot. She spilled a little in her lap,and was promptly awarded a huge settlement.

Common Sense was preceded in death, by his parents, Truth and Trust His wife, Discretion, his daughter, Responsibility, his son, Reason

He is survived by his 4 stepbrothers; I Know My Rights I Want It Now; Someone Else Is To Blame; I'm A Victim Not many attended his funeral because so few realized he was gone.

Garage sales should be fun and hassle-free, with your goal to make some good money and off-load your unwanted items � our garage sale checklist is your hassle-free, step-by-step organiser for achieving this.

2-3 weeks before the sale

-Start sorting through your household for unwanted items
have the mindset that almost anything will sell if it is a bargain

- Price your items
price items about 25-35% of what they cost new (clothes are exceptions - 5-15% here)

- Pick a date and time for your sale
weekends are the best; avoid public holidays or special events

- Write your ad
give the address and hours of the sale; mention items that are of particular interest

- Place your ad in local newspapers and using free garage sale adversting sites
put up flyers on local community boards; inform neighbours as they might want to have a joint sale

1 week before the sale

- Make sure items are cleaned and repaired
the better condition it is in, the higher price you will get

- Determine where signs will go
in and around your neighbourhood is best; one in front of your house is smart too

- Make your signs
use arrows, print the address, start and end times, use big letters

1-2 days before the sale

- Set up your sale area
use tables to lay items out, display clothing hung up; you want to create an area so people can browse and shop in comfort

- Get checkout area ready
have plenty of change; spare bags; calculator; newspaper (to wrap fragile items); paper & pens

Night before the sale

- Put up signs

- Make some refreshments and have a radio ready to play some soft background music

Morning of sale

- Make sure your house is locked up and fully secure
don't want to give buyers the opportunity to snoop around

- Open the gates/door to your sale
greet all customers with a freindly smile and "hello!"; be prepared to bargain with buyers

Right after sale

- Take signs down
not only is this courteous to the environment, but you might incur a fine or penalty if you don't

- Count your money and rejoice!

In my line of business as a provider of small collectible vintage and mid century furnishings. Along with local antique shop located at the French Broad Antique Mall.
